Midland Budgerigar Association Report The MBA held its Specialist and Rare Variety Show in October and achieved a benched entry of 300. Therefore, next year we will have Gold Patronage with double challenge certificates. Whilst the birds were judged, I gave a presentation on breeding and exhibiting Recessive Pieds to a very appreciative audience. The presentation highlighted the problems judges have when faced with a very good quality bird against variety content.

Midland Budgerigar Association - Specialist & Rare Open Show
The MBA held its Specialist & Rare Open Show in October 2018, which was well attended, however the entry did not reach expectations as we were hoping to bench 300 in order to receive double CC patronage in 2019 and we only managed 249. Alan and Gina Adams were the judges on the day and there were some very good birds benched. Whilst the judging was taking place Alan Marchant gave a talk in a separate room to a very appreciative audience. Having a guest speaker at the show was a new idea that came from the committee and due to its success will be a feature at future shows.

On the 21st of October the MBA will be holding its Area Specialist and Rare Show in Leicestershire. Last year the show was very successful with 280 birds entered. Moving forwards on that success the MBA this year intend to hold a seminar whilst the judging takes place. The MBA are pleased to announce that they have engaged Adrian Lovack the current BS Club Show winner as the speaker. It is hoped that this will help to attract a larger entry and if we can bench a minimum of 300 birds, we will receive Double CC’s for 2019. |

Nest Feather & Young Stock Show & Members Day - Saturday, 1st July 2017 It has been a long time since the Association embarked on the format for this Members Day with the format being that during the day their would be three lectures, which started with Trevor Terheege giving a power point presentation on the B.S. followed by Stephen Holland doing a talk on Medication For Budgerigars and finally David Woan doing a presentation on Colour Varieties. Sadly we failed to get the support that we were hoping for with 12 exhibitors and 84 birds benched. The judges for the day was Adrian Terheege & Emma Robey.

MBA area Championship 2015 -
Show
Report I find it hard to believe that another MBA open show has been and gone. We were privileged enough to see some super birds bench amongst the 438 on show. So the good news is that the number were about the same as last year and as one of the judges on the day, the four of us seemed to spread the awards around various stud. Best in show and Best Young bird in Show was our secretary Bruce Greenway’s Cinnamon Grey Hen. A very solid hen with good width of face, well done Bruce. This hen has done well around the show season so BIS was a fitting conclusion to its season….or maybe not!!! Best Any Age in show was awarded to Alec and Dave Woan’s Sky Blue cock. As always with the Coventry father and son partnership the bird was turned out in cracking condition. Best Opposite Sex Young Bird went to the Lutino of Rick Watt’s. A beautiful example of the variety and when Rick explained after the show that the cock was only 4 months old, it still has a long way to go and can only get better. I was really pleased for Rick as he had travelled so far to the show. The final major award went to the Welsh partnership of Thomas and Wall who’s Spangle Grey Green hen took the award for Best opposite sex Any Age. Again turned out in immaculate conditions. Again many thanks for travelling to our show. I think Dave Woan our show manager was somewhat frustrated with the four of us that judged, but it is testament to the standard of the birds on show at we could not agree on any of the major awards, all were split decisions. In the section awards the partnership of P & K Hunt took best Intermediate AA with and outstanding Lutino hen, unfortunately it was not in the best of feather condition but would have been in the running for a major award if it had been fit. A really solid hen with good width of skull and shoulders. In the Novice section both the awards for both the Any age and Young bird went to Clive Mayers, Clive had travelled up with Rick Watts so it was just rewards that he should take these awards, both with spangles the AA a spangle blue hen and the young bird a spangle green cock. In the beginner section The Stratford upon Avon father and son partnership of D & C White took best any age with a spangle blue hen, this partnership seem to be able to produce some good solid birds and this bird was no exception. In the beginner young birds Jack Dixon took the top award with a grey cock, a well turned out birds. Moving down to the junior sections Tom Leedham took the Any age awards with his Sky blue cock and Olivia Edwards took the Young bird award with her dominant pied hen. I know from reports on the web that Olivia has fallen foul of a few “dirty tricks” whilst attending another show and I hope this win helped put right some of her disappointments. Again many thanks to all those who showed. The award for Best intermediate Young Bird went to Mike Woodfield who benched a very nice Grey cock. I was so pleased for Mike as he is a committee member that travels from Shropshire every months. Well done Mike. Challenge Certificate Winners

Midland Budgerigar Association 2015 The Midland Budgerigar Association held it 2nd Nest Feather and Young Stock show on Sunday 21st June. The two judges for the day Roger Carr (Young stock) and Terry Sadler (Nest Feather) were presented with a total of 123 birds. In the Young stock section the award for Best Young Stock and Best Champion Young Stock went to the partnership of Alec and Dave Woan with their Grey green cock. This partnership pulled off the double by taking the award for Best Nest Feather and Best Champion Nest Feather with an Opaline Dark Green hen. The award for best Intermediate Young stock was taken by Mick Woodfied with a good structured Dominant Pied Grey Green that lacked a bit of variation. Mick again pull off a double taking the award for Best Intermediate Nest Feather with another Dominant Pied. Doubles seemed to be the order of the day with Dave Deakin taking both awards in the Novice section. His opaline Cinnamon green took the Best Novice young Bird and his Grey took the Nest Feather award. The final “double of the Day” was completed in the Beginner section by Mick and Tracy Dell. Their Spangle Blue took the award for Best Beginner Young Bird and their dominant pied took the award for Best Beginner Nest feather. In the junior section the awards were split between Oliver Williams who’s Dominant Pied light green took the award for Best Junior Young Bird, with Max Beesley’s Grey taking the award for Best Junior Nest Feather. The committee enjoyed seeing so many members support the show as exhibitors and visitors as the show fell on Fathers Day and they would like to thank all for their support and look forward to seeing you all at the Area open show in September. |

MBA Young Stock & First Nest Feather Show Results 2015 Results from the MBA's first nest feather show held on Sunday 22nd March 2015 Best In Show :- H.W &M Hough :- Sky Blue Best Intermediate:- M.Woodfield:- Normal Grey Best Novice:- D.Deakin:- Normal Grey Best Beginner:- P.Harris:- Sky Blue Best Junior:- O.Williams:- Cobalt 60 birds benched
Judge for the day John Punchard was presented with 60 nest feather birds at the Midland Budgerigar Associations 1st Nest Feather show on Sunday 22nd March. The entry this year was a little down on last year, with a number of well know studs being absent from the event. Our judge spent a lot of time to pick his best in show as the one birds in contention would not perch, finally he pick the Sky Blue from the partnership of H.W & M Hough. This bird had good length and showed well all day. The other bird in contention was the Best Intermediate Grey bench by Mick Woodfield. This bird had a very strong line through the shoulders and a nice width of skull, but by the time it came to the best in show line up it just would not perch for the judge.
Following the show the MBA held it AGM and our president for 2015 Alan Blakeman presented our retiring treasurer Alec Woan with the silver bird trophy in recognition for all his years of service to the MBA as treasurer. Mr.Cy Thorne was elected as president elect and Mr.Brian Moule joined the committee to replace Mr.John Goslin who stepped down due to ill health. The position of treasurer has been taken by Mrs R Terheege and our financial checker for 2015 will be Mr. Alec Woan. The AGM agree a number of rule changes/updates which will be circulated to all members with the next newsletter.

First 2014 Nest Feather Show Sunday 23rd March saw the start of the show season at the MBA with our 1st Nest Feather show attracting a slightly disappointing entry of 54 bird, down on 2013, but there were some quality babies on show for me to judge. Best in show and Best Champion nest Feather went to our outgoing president Trevor Terheege and his partner Adrian with a very powerful Double Factor Spangle yellow hen. This bird had power through the eyes and shoulders and display no suffusion. Second in the Champion line up was a Grey Green from the partnership of H & M Hough. It pushed the winner but lacked a little of the power through the eye that the winner had. In the Intermediate section the partnership of Swain and Ford took the first two places. First in the line up was a strong Cobalt cock with good length but missing the power through the eye and shoulders of the BIS. Second in the line up was a Light green. The big disappointment on the day was the lack of Novice and Beginner birds. Not one bird on show in these two sections. Like most in the hobby I think this is a major cause for concern. In the Junior section Oliver Williams took a clean sweep. Best Junior was a Cobalt cock. A strong bird but as I told Oliver the best cobalt was second but was missing a tail. Second in the line up was Oliver's Spangle light green another pleasing bird from this young member. My thanks to the stewards on the day and all who helped with the staging and catering.

The final words from
one of the committee as we left the show hall on Saturday 8th September were well
thats another year over, lets start planning for next year and that is
just about how our shows have to be every year. As our Chairman had
hoped both the entered and bench number where up on last year with some 478 birds being
bench against last years total of 393. A very pleasing increase of 85 birds
bench or put another way an increase of 21.6% on last year, so to all who showed a huge
thank you from the committee.
Best Opposite Sex Young Bird went to the Partnership of J & J Cox with an Albino hen. This bird was a powerful example of its variety. In the section awards
the Intermediate any age section was dominated by the partnership of Swain and Ford with
them taking four of the top seven awards. In the Intermediate Young Bird section honour
where spread around between the partnerships of Swain and Ford, J & J Cox and D.
Turner. The Novice section was
dominated by G.Ludlow. Out of the 14 awards in the Any Age and Young Bird section Greg
only missed out on two of these award and they went to M. Woodfield. In the Beginner
section the awards where spread around a little more than in other section. In the Any age
the partnership of Howells & Lloyd took four of the awards and the remainder
going to A.Harris, N.Carman and A.Benton. In the Young Birds the awards were spread around
between J.Johnson, A.Harris, D & C White, N.Carman and Mrs.V. Thomas. The Junior awards were
almost a white wash by young Daniel Norman, he was only prevented from the clean sweep by
O. Williams who took 2nd best Junior Any Age. I am sure all those
who attended the show will want to join me in thanking a group of people
who, so often, go unmentioned, those who supply us with breakfast when we arrive at the
show hall, provide tea, coffee and biscuits during the judging and an excellent midday
meal when the judging is over. Not content with that, they stand all day providing
refreshments to all our visitor so to Sue Clarke, Ann Lamb, Alan and June Blakeman a
huge thank you on behalf of all of us. Your efforts many not be song but are truly
appreciated by all of the members and those who attended the show. We would also like to
thank our judges for the day, most travelled a good distance to officiate and we hope you
enjoyed your day. Finally to all those who help set up the show on
the Friday evening, stewarded during the day and helped clean up after the show, many
thanks. We could not do it without your support.
